What is Momme & Thread Count in Silk Fabric?

What is Momme in silk fabric?
Mommes (mm), is a unit traditionally used to measure the quality of silk fabrics. One momme = 4.340 grams per square meter; 8 momme is approximately 1 ounce per square yard or 35 grams per square meter.
The usual range of momme weight for different weaves of silk are:
Gauze
3-5 momme
Organza
4-6 momme
Chiffon
6-8 momme
Habotai
12-16 momme
Charmeuse
12-30 momme
Raw silk
35-40 momme
The higher Momme weight the better?

19mm=19lbs 100 yards of silk
The Density of silk is measured by momme. The density of the threads in the 25 momme variety of silk is also significantly higher than that of the 22 momme or 19 momme. Our 25 momme silk pillowcase boasts a thread count of 750, while our 22 Momme silk pillowcase has a thread count of 600+ and 19mm silk pillowcase, has a thread count of only 400. More threads = more durable and expensive.

What is 100% mulberry silk?
Mulberry Silk is created by silkworms who feed on mulberry leaves. The silk they spin their cocoons into is then used as silk in silk products. Mulberry Silk is the best silk you can buy for textile purposes. There are other kinds like spider silk for instance that’s incredibly strong, but that silk is also incredibly expensive and not available to the public. 100% means that the fabric only consists of Mulberry silk. This is important because some companies will blend mulberry silk with other cheaper silks to make a cheaper product. Mulberry silk is incredibly soft and durable.

What is thread count?
Thread count or threads per inch (TPI) is a measure of the coarseness or fineness of certain fabrics, most notably cotton. While it is not the definitive measurement of the quality of silk fabrics, it is good for reference when you purchase silk online. It is measured by counting the number of threads contained in one square inch of fabric or one square centimeter, including both the length (warp) and width (weft) threads. The thread count is the number of threads counted along two sides (up and across) of the square inch, added together.

Measure around your bust front and back on the line of your nipples.

Measure around your waist at its narrowest point, usually just above the navel.

Measure around your hip at the widest part of the hipbones.

Measure from your shoulder to the wrist bone.

LEG LENGTH:
Measure from your hipbone to the ankle.

INSEAM LENGTH:
The distance from the uppermost part of your thigh to your ankle. It is easiest to measure the inseam based on a well-fitting pair of pants. Measure from the crotch to the cuff on the inside seam of the leg.

HEIGHT:
Measure your height when you are barefoot and keep your body straight.
